Presentation: - Nice, all small parts were wrapped in plastic so they don't fall out of the bag. - a few spares of resistors and leds. Quality of the materials: - excellent PCB, all parts are marked and easy to identify on which side they should be soldered. - good parts, except for the leds which don't have the same light intensity. Would have payed 1-2 bucks extra for a better quality, since leds are visual and they affect the end product. Documentation: - outdated on the website (received V1.2 and on the website there is only V1.1). For a beginner it is hard to figure out what to do with an incomplete schematic. - setup procedure doesn't exist on the website, luckily some previous comment pointed to a PDF on the internet. Software: - it works, the clock keeps a good track of time. - some few glitches on the setup, especially with the leds. Could have been done better with minor efforts. Soldering experience: - Can be used to tutor beginners, this would make a nice experience to solder SMDs and TH parts. Overall: The clock worked flawlessly from the start. There was no need to check for errors. Nice project for beginners and/or tutoring. Possible improvements, even if price goes higher: - use of an other processor instead of a 8051 family; - make the software open source so beginners could experience both hardware and software in an easy environment (C or C+ASM); - use of a better quality leds (especially the green ones); - use of a micro-usb instead of a mini-usb connector.

Original Fonctionne parfaitement malgré un transistor pnp 8550 HS ( remplacé par un BC 557 en TO 92 ) Idéal pour se faire la main pour souder les composants CMS

My clock was ahead too much. It was correct from battery, but if it was powered, it was always ahead. Under a half day it was 20-25 minutes ahead. I checked the 32768Hz oscillator, it was correct from the battery mode, but from any 5V supply juttered beetwen 33-34kHz. I applied one 100nF decoupling capacitor directly onto the DS1302 pin 1 and pin 4. There is a hole in the IC socket, so I put this capacitor under the IC into this hole. Since my clock is correct.

I received version 1.2 of this kit, which is slightly different to the version currently pictured on the website. No component manifest or instructions were included. After completing the build I had to remove capacitors C6 and C7 to get the 32.768kHz crystal oscillator to work, indeed the datasheet for the DS1302 shows no requirement for these capacitors. When they were originally fitted then the time would not advance even though I could set the clock. Removing the capacitors resolved the problem. Also the circuit does not show resistors R33, R34 or R35 - again I have found these not to be needed. The DS1032 signalling lines don't require pull-up resistors. Also had one faulty green LED in the kit, but a couple of spares were included. All in all a great experience, I particularly enjoyed the troubleshooting aspect, but really I should not have had to do this. I have therefore only given 4 stars for quality.

The Clock works well when constructed. although you do need the battery which is not included otherwise you will need to reset the clock time upon power on each time. Details on using the buttons to set the clock can be found here:- http://uglyduck.ath.cx/PDF/PCBs/EC1204B_clock_Kit/EC1204B_User_Manual.pdf

Nice clock, but firmware is unavailable. I have made modifications to this project, easy to follow and with a new processor. Buy the original clock from Banggood and try making your own version. Tutor pupils in school, using the information on my blog: http://blog.copcea.ro/?p=1252

Protruding parts , assemble good for a trained technician . Some parts are very small. R33 , 34 and 35 are missing in the drawing V1.1 This should be 10 kohm and serve for making of high output 5,6 and 7 of DS1302 (U2) I have attached a photo of the modified scheme ( V1.2 )
