The bulbs are effective sources of light and if shielded by a lamp shade they're ok, (the plastic covers over the LEDs are transparent, they'd be more aesthetic if they cover was frosted/tinted. The only real problem I had with these bulbs is that they are NOT compatible with electronic dimmers. They work with old fashioned manual dimmers (the ones with a rotating control know) but they don't dim with an electronic dimmer unit, instead they just flash on and off. Unacceptable
