Both arrived well packed and tested working well with 3AA nimh Decent out put on High mode. Large beam spread when zoomed out. Colour temperature more on the blueish side. Weight and size is heavier and more bulky than my sunwayman D40A (4xAA) I have been looking for a budget LED torche with Cree XML and runs on AA batteries. These provide longer run times are easier to come by anywhere in the world compared with AAA batteries (or lithium's). I was looking for a decent torch that took 3xAA and came across this one. There are some conflicting specifications, some say 3xAA and some say 3xAAA. I can confirm this takes 3xAA with the holder included. It can also take a 26650 with the sleeve provided. The LED looks like a genuine Cree XM-L2 and the driver draws approximately 1.4A high and 350mA low. There is also a strobe mode. Construction and finish looks good. Head action is smooth (pull out for zoom/spot). As a zoomie flashlight its a jack of all trades offering flood and throw (spot), but no spill with the throw. Only thing I'd change is the driver. A turbo, high and low would be better, with turbo at the full 3A for the XM-L2. I recommend this torch for anyone who doesn't like using Li-ion batteries for safety reasons.

This torch easily exceeded my expectations and I've bought quite a few LED torches. It does take 3x AA batts, not AAA as in the description. The zoom function makes it so much more useful than a regular torch. It compares favourably to an expensive custom LED 18V lithium Ryobi torch module I bought recently due to the great lens and zoom capability. This X50 version also came with an adapter to allow easy fitting of a 26500 lithium battery, which didn't come with the X65. It appears that the LED used in this model is more highly respected than the X65, but side by side comparisons showed them to be almost identical in performance with 3x AA batts. They're both rated 1200LM. The fit and finish externally is supurb.

Generally pleased with the light. Pros: - It has a nice weight and easy to handle - a flexible battery option - good anodizing finish Cons - There were dust/metal shaving inside the lens and on the emitter when it arrived. I had to open and cleaned it up. - annoying next mode memory
