Q: would this item work to control the speed of a 110 volt lathe motor?

danyboy2000 It'sa 2W potentiometer, so with 110V, the max current you can draw is about 20mA. You motor surely draws more than that so no, you can not use it straight with the motor. You'll need a motor controller that can handle that kind of current.
