Let me explain why I gave 5 stars. Importing Amateur radio to India can be a hassle...specially for new hams. Me included. I wanted to reach our local repeater...and my 5 watts was not enough. This model is just a glorified Baofeng radio with maximum wattage of about 20W if you use proper power supply. Nothing fancy. But its cheap. It gets the job done. And it sounds worably decent. The major advantage was...Banggood was able to deliver to me directly in India..within just a few weeks..via DTDC...without me requiring to go and clear it from customs office...which is a major boon for importing such a little radio..when you are just getting into the hobby. It weighs less than 2 glass paper weights..and its size is same as the Baofeng handhelds...just thinner. For programming, make yourself a RJ-45 to 4 wire jumper..then program it using an Arduino as the serial device using CHIRP. Power is through T-plug or Deans connector, which is easily available. I will update my comment if I face issues later. Nothing fancy for now. It just works. And it was within a student's budget.

I am a Baofeng UV-5R user. Previously, I bought Nagoya NA-771 from Banggood. Based on my experience of the stock Rubber ducky vs the Nagoya, vs Retevis, my RX is comparable to the rubber ducky with this Retevis, but much better than the Nagoya. TX is better on the Rubber ducky than this for me. Others may have different results, but for me, the Baofeng stock antenna works really good (with a counterpoise). Do I repent buying the Retevis? Probably not. It works...just..no significant improvement. Do I repent buying Nagoya? Yes absolutely. The version of Nagoya on Banggood can't get signals which the rubber ducky can. If you just need a spare antenna for your handheld, go for this. If you need to get those signals that you are not getting now, make yourself any antenna you like...it will be much better when you fine-tune your antenna according to your needs. P.S.: The rubber gromet that they gave with this antenna was not needed...and not attachable too...to the UV-5R.

Definitely a Chinese clone..not an original Nagoya-771. If you are searching for the rubber ring, it is not provided. But..on the other hand, it fits perfectly, and on testing its performance, reception was obviously better than the stock rubber ducky. Could hit some nets more than 8 km away from me in urban area. I don't regret the buy.

ArijitHaldar Update after 3 years...I didn't know about counterpoise back then. Rubber ducky with a counterpoise much much better than this. This antenna even fails to receive some signals that the rubber ducky with proper counterpoise does...let alone transmit. I am thoroughly regretting my decision for buying this now
