Q: can these be used as water purifcation?

Asked by dave48 on 2018-06-21 09:08:34

Svante You should only use the solution made specifically for water purification. The iodine in those solutions is heavily diluted in order to make is safe for humans. The concentration of iodine in these crystals is way too high. Iodine is poisonous and can even burn your skin and eyes. For more information I recommend checking out this website: http://www.princeton.edu/~oa/manual/water.shtml

Q: What can I use it for?

Asked by Roger on 2018-11-10 08:57:35

Svante If you place them in ammonia they react, creating nitrogen triiodide. You can then isolate the nitrogen triiodide by filtering out or evaporating the remaining ammonia. Nitrogen triiodide is awesome because it’s extremely reactive. The slightest touch will cause it to let out a small bang accompanied by a spectacular puff of purple smoke. However, be safe while handling these chemicals! They can be dangerous if not handled with care.
