    Unfortunately these are not genuine L298N chips but some sort of clone. That means they are not able to handle the volts that the genuine chips do; out comes the magic smoke. I guess you get what you pay for and these are cheap. No good once they burn up though.

    One of these is being used to directly control a 5 volts motorised ball valve, open and closed by reversing the polarity. The inputs and outputs used to control 2 motors have been connected together to provide a bigger current ceiling for the 0.5 Amps max valve. This configuration is working very well and will be used to provide solid state control for additional motorised ball valves. It doesn't matter that the chip itself isn't a genuine L298N.

    If you plan to put header connectors on this board, note that the pin spacing is strange for the IN holes and the MOTOR holes. The spacing is slightly wider than the standard 2.54mm, so you will not be able to use a set of 4 pins. You can use single pins. Also pairs of pins will fit the holes with a bit of a squeeze. Note that the mapping from IN pins to MOTOR pins is not straight-through as expected. IN1 and IN2 map to MOTOR-A, but swapped over. IN3 and IN4 map to MOTOR-B, but swapped over.
